Upgraded Westlawn Website Launched!

July 13, 2004, Edgewater, MD:  The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology is pleased to announce the launch of its upgraded website: www.westlawn.edu.  “Westlawn.org provides a central source for prospective students, faculty, enrolled students and employers,” states Dave Gerr, Director of Westlawn, “The website makes it convenient to learn about Westlawn’s courses in yachts and small craft through its independent distance-learning program. The website also serves to connect, better than ever, the Institute, creating a virtual campus.”

Highlights of www.westlawn.edu are:

  • For the first time, a student forum and chat room that allows Westlawn students to talk to

each other directly

  • Complete roster of Westlawn students
  • List of many of Westlawn’s famous graduates
  • Gallery of Westlawn alumni designed boats
  • Students design gallery
  • Student roster
  • Job postings available to industry
  • Information on school history and operation
  • Detailed syllabi of Westlawn programs

The mission of Westlawn is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to build a successful career in yacht and small craft design, and second, to support continued growth of the recreational marine industry through the development of various courses and programs to promote and provide educational opportunities for those working – and those intending to work – within the marine industry.  Although the school focuses on the computer-aided design process, it is also committed to ensuring that students gain solid traditional skills.  Westlawn.edu launches the Institute even further into the future of yacht design.

The new forum is open to all current students and to all graduates of either the full Yacht Design Program or of Yacht Design Lite. If you’re a graduate, email [email protected] to create your log on account. If you’re an active student and haven’t received your log-on information email [email protected].

Founded in 1930, the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology is the only nationally accredited and state certified distance-learning school of small-craft design in the United States. As the not-for-profit educational affiliate of the American Boat and Yacht Council, Westlawn’s primary function is to assure a continual source of highly skilled designers to the marine industry.
